What is the normal cycle of growth-and-anagen hair loss?

The normal cycle of hair growth is 2 to 6 years. Each hair grows approximately 1 centimeter per month during this phase. About 90% of scalp hair is in growth phase (anagen). About 10% of scalp hair, at some point, are in a phase of rest (catagen). After 2-3 months, the hair that were resting fall (telogen) to be replaced by new growth.

It is normal to lose some hair (less than 60 hairs) each day within this cycle. However, some people may have excessive hair loss (more than normal, it can affect men, women and children). Thus, an action to prevent hair loss should be taken before it gone badly.

What are the causes of excessive hair loss?

A number of factors can cause excessive hair loss. For example, 3 to 4 months after an illness or major surgery, you may get a sudden excessive hair loss. This loss of hair is stress and anxiety-related illness and fortunately only temporary.

The hormonal changes can cause hair loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or otherwise, your hair may fall. We can remedy this fall generally in the treatment of thyroid diseases. Hair loss may occur if male and female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting this hormonal imbalance is necessarily recommend in this case.

About 3 months after childbirth, many women endure a massive loss of hair that is up to certain limit considered natural. This loss is indeed associated with hormonal changes due to pregnancy. During pregnancy, the presence of certain hormones accentuated helps keep hair that would normally fall. When the hormones return to their usual state after birth, hair resume their normal life cycle of growth and loss.

Some infections may be causing hair loss. Fungal infections of the scalp can cause hair loss in children. The infection is easily treated with medicines called antifungals.

Finally, hair loss may occur as a result of underlying disease, like lupus or diabetes. Therefore, hair loss may be an early sign of disease, it is important to identify the cause so it can be processed.
